A Weekend Flat Out on the Grass

This weekend was one of those moments that remind you why stepping away from the city is essential. My husband, a true biologist at heart, was in his element pointing out every plant, bird, and insect as if the forest were his personal encyclopedia. Meanwhile, our dog completely transformed into a wild creature, sniffing, sprinting, and insisting on investigating every leaf and stick like it held the secrets of the universe.

We hiked, we laughed, we got lost a little (okay, maybe more than a little), and all the while I watched my two favourite companions in their natural habitats. My husband was quietly thrilled by the biodiversity, jotting notes and whispering fun facts, while our dog bounded ahead, paused for dramatic sniffs, and occasionally looked back as if to make sure we were keeping up. It was adorable, chaotic, and perfectly unplanned.

Thereโ€™s something magical about slowing down, leaving phones behind, and letting nature guide the pace. Between the laughter, the fresh air, and watching my dog fully embrace his inner wild, I felt a reminder that joy is often in the simplest moments. Nature has a way of reminding you to breathe, laugh, and be fully present, even if itโ€™s just for a weekend.

By the end, our dog was exhausted but triumphant, my husband was quietly ecstatic about the ecosystem weโ€™d wandered through, and I felt completely recharged, grateful for small adventures, for people and pets who share your love of the outdoors, and for the little wildness that makes life so much fun.
